Ever wonder how a band gets off the ground? From rehearsing in my living room--Texas garages are prohibitively hot--to low-budget gigs to weddings where the sky is the limit. This is the story of The Original Recipe Band told from the point of view of the arranger and instigator-in-chief.

It's either that or pass the hat

I'm a little past 50. I played in my first rock band when I was 48, prior to that sustaining myself with jazz, big band, salsa, and funk bands. It really is amazing that at my age I have to depend on the kindness of strangers in the form of a tip jar to make up a percentage of my income. Infact, let's face it: It's downright weird.

In order to defray some of the expense of the time which I used to write all the charts (not all of this in the past tense, either) and sunch uncompensated tasks as client contact, putting sets together, and the website (which is now located here). Laigh (whose website you might was well visit while you're looking at ours) warned me that for the first year I wouldn't make any more than any of the other musicians in the band while working three times as hard. Oh well, at least I was warned.

Nonethless, I have fiscal needs that need to be addressed.

So look, if you want to buy a chart and set up a band like ours (provided you don't live in Texas) go ahead and email me. I'll send you a roster of the available charts and a price list and you can decide.

Tired....must nap!
